Alice Cicolini

Born from a desire to celebrate the beauty of ancient mastercraft, Alice Cicolini’s eponymous label brings a unique voice to contemporary fine jewellery, privileging slow luxury and artisanship alongside fine materials.

Handmade in India, her designs are crafted in the studio of one of the last Jaipuri meenakari trained in the enamel traditions of Persia, passed down through family generations over 200 years. This heritage of skilled artisanship underpins design that explores finely carved ebony, maple and stone, richly coloured gems, 22-carat gold and enamel, inspired by the sacred architecture and patterns of the Silk Route.

Cicolini lived in India for five years, working as a multidisciplinary curator. Her understanding of creative collaboration underpins her work: the negotiated balance between a craft’s inherent beauty and ancient traditions, and a contemporary design language that speaks to customers whose lives and tastes are so alien to the craftsmen’s world. Her design emerges from the dialogue between designer and mastercraftsman, and between the making traditions of Europe and India. The strikingly precise forms are wax-carved in wax in London before being sent to Jaipur, and Alice regularly works with celebrated London goldsmiths to ensure the precision of structure that offsets the rich materials and the aesthetic irregularities that are an essential part of her jewellery’s beauty, and which celebrate their distinctly Indian making traditions.

Alice is a designer, creative commissioner, curator of several international touring exhibitions on design and a published author, including a book on contemporary British dandyism, The New English Dandy, for Thames & Hudson. She writes regularly on design and forecasting, and is a Research Associate at Central St Martins, where she graduated in 2009 with a Masters in Jewellery Design.

Alice has exhibited at the V&A, Sotheby’s and Asia House in London, and at Nature Morte in New Delhi and Bungalow 8 in Mumbai. Her work is stocked at Net A Porter, Dover Street Market (London, New York, Tokyo), Twist (Portland), Capitol

(Charlotte), August (LA), Alex Eagle (London), Mouki Mou, Meister (Zurich), Kultia (Greece), and Urban Grange Hall (Dallas)

Her work regularly features in Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, ELLE, FT How to Spend It and The Jewellery Editor, and featured in Joanna Hardy’s Masters of Modern Jewellery, Olivier Dupon’s The New Jewellers, and Carol Woolton’s Drawing Jewels for Fashion. Alice is the creative director of Swiss heritage pearl company Winterson and has created collections for luxury e-tailer 20Ltd.com, ceramic designer Peter Ting, Designers Guild, and Ilado, Paris, as well as consulting for Selfridges, Louis Vuitton and Qatari Diar.
